Zanzibar Island

Is the famous beach in East Africa, harbouring and increasing number of visitors each year. It also famous known as the spice island or melting pot of cultures.

It is located on the Africa’s east coast with rich in culture, history, white sand beaches with palms and stone town as world heritage site.

It is a part of Tanzania in East Africa composed of the Zanzibar archipelago in the Indian ocean and consist of many small island, the two major ones Unguja referred as Zanzibar and Pemba.

It is here where Swahili, Portuguese, Persian, Indian, Arabs and British met where major events were slaves and ivory trade.

Zanzibar Island, just off the coast of Tanzania, is a paradise where history, culture, and coastal charm meet. With its powdery white beaches, crystal-clear waters, and swaying palm trees, it’s the perfect place to relax after a safari or enjoy a romantic getaway.

Bagamoyo

Bagamoyo is a town located 75kilometers north of Dar es salaam, it was once a embarkation port for slave trade and a German East Africa capital. Bagamoyo rich in history as it once famous trading port for penultimate stop of the slaves and ivory caravan travelling on foot from interior once Tanganyika on their way to Zanzibar.

It was also entry point for Arabs and European missionaries, explorers and traders in East and Central Africa. It is a world heritage site recognized by UNESCO aimed to protect and conserve the fascinating gothic and Afro Arab ancient costal settlement

Major attractions of Bagamoyo include German colonial administration headquarters – BOMA, Old Roman catholic and museum displaying the history of Bagamoyo, Livingstone memorial church, Kaole ruins dated back to 13th century, Old fort, marine tour, mangrove forest, caravan serai, slave prison, the beach, college of arts, southern African countries Liberation camp and Kaole museums.

Mafia

Mafia Island is part of Tanzania’s Mafia Archipelago, in the Indian Ocean the heaven for diving and snorkeling, sunbath, blue lagoon, picnic on the beach, history, coral reefs, home to wildlife such as whale sharks and sea turtles, forest animals such as bush babies, wild pigs, monkeys, blue duikers, genets, velvet monkeys, pteropus fuits bats or flying foxes ocean wonderland and undisturbed beach.  

It was part of sultanate of Kilwa and it lies across the trade routes from the gulf and once occupied by Egyptians, Oman, Greco – Roman, Chinese, Portuguese, English and German

Kilwa

Kilwa – Means place of fish. Is a community of islands in Indian ocean off southern cost of Tanzania in Eastern Africa located about 300 kilometers south of Dar es salaam, it also known as African Mecca. The town is divided in three different towns  Kilwa Masoko, Kilwa Kivinje and Kilwa Kisiwani  in which Kilwa Masoko is developed town and regional hub while Kilwa Kisiwani and Kilwa Kivinje are spectacular historical attractions and natural scenic beauty, It rich in history of Swahili coast, memories of the past civilization and early settlements, once was a centre of the Kilwa sultanate, a medieval sultanate whose authority rich its height  in the 13th – 15th centuries CE, it was famous trade connection between Arabian peninsula as well as India and China in which famous export ware spices, tortoise shells, coconut oils, ivory, slaves and aromatic gums as well as gold. For about 500 years Kilwa was minting coins between 1100 – 1600CE. It is UNESCO world heritage site since 1981.

Among the famous medieval travelers  was Ibn Battuta, Moroccan explorer and traveler 1304 – 1368CE visited around 1331CE, Vasco Da Gama 1498 – 9 CE.

Famous places of interest – Mafia Marine park and Mafia island

Great mosque, Palace of Husuni Kubwa (The great fort, Husuni ndogo (Little fort). Kilwa is also heaven of bird watchers and famous birds found here are Scand pipers, heron, African storks, fish eagle, kingfishers, oyster catchers, hawks and fruit bats. Animals found here are hippos and crocodile live close to where the rivers enter mangrove swamps.
